Braze

2D Platformer Desktop Game

We created a game to address creative block, anxiety, burnout, and other emotional roadblocks. Our goal was to design a unique experience for young individuals who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or mentally blocked in their creative work. We felt that a video game could be an engaging, interactive way to explore these themes. Our Team: Jake Crock and Daniel Gur

The development of the currency exchange dashboard app significantly enhanced GlobalFinance Inc.'s service offerings. Users experienced a seamless and efficient way to manage their international finances. The real-time data, combined with powerful analytics and a user-friendly interface, empowered users to make well-informed financial decisions.

Problem Statement

We believe that playing a game would be an engaging way to combat creative block. This will be for young people who are in a rut, overwhelmed or lost creativity. A renewed interest for users to do their best and not worry about the roadblocks in their way. Users experience a positive reaction or a spark of creativity.

Goals

• Create an immersive, mindfulness-focused game that takes player on a journey. • Visually represent stages of anxiety, burnout, perfectionism and imposter syndrome. • Create a visually striking and thought-provoking experience that leaves users with a positive spark of creativity or inspiration. • Learn skills in art direction, concept art, game design and game development.

Why a Video Game?

This project also pushed us out of our comfort zones, as neither of us had any prior experience making a game. It was a significant challenge, but one that ultimately expanded our skills anding to our expanding tool kit.

Art Direction

• Color and Emotion: We used a color palette that transitions from muted, gray tones to vibrant hues, representing the shift from mental block to creative renewal. • Cohesion and Clarity: The art and design were aligned with the emotional progression of the game, ensuring that each visual element was not only beautiful but meaningful in the context of the player’s journey.

Braze helped us turn creative struggles like burnout and self-doubt into a playable story. It challenged us technically and creatively, and taught us how powerful games can be in expressing real emotions. This project from timeline to learning unity to build it, took Jake and I to our limits, but It was all worth it.
